WINTER INTEREST IN THE GARDEN - birds

Today it is -22 Celsius and there is not much going on in my gardens.
Do not get me wrong, it is very, very pretty out but there is not that much activity, no buzzing bees or butterflies wafting through the air.

There are however birds, and the best way to get to see them is by providing them with food. After all they are so small they could use our help; did I mention it is -22 Celsius out?

I placed this suet feeder just outside our kitchen window where we can see them every day. Today I had what appears to be a little woodpecker of some type as well as the usual Chickadees.

Quick tip: freeze the suet before you place it in the feeder or be prepared to get very greasy fingers!
Lesson learned.

  2. I wish I could place a feeder so close to a window...but our indoor cats would have the entire area ripped to shreds trying to get to the birds...
I adore this image of the Downy!!

    1. My dogs like to watch the feeder but they just chase the birds in their minds and leave the furniture alone. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I bet the woodpeckers were a downy and a hairy! It's wonderful to watch birds, especially in winter.

  4. I wish I lived in a country where birds need feeding in winter to get them closer to the house to enjoy and photograph.Good for you for providing them with food.

    1. Thanks Arija, and you are right about the weather making them need it more because I do not even both filling my feeders in the summer they just don't get used that much.

  7. I always take a paper towel with me when I insert the suet into the feeder. Even frozen it is greasy as grease does not freeze. Dianne
