MACRO MONDAY - pansy face

It is amazing how closely the inside of a Pansy resembles a face.

A clown wearing pancake make-up, but still a face.

MACRO MONDAY - alluim 2

I treated myself to a new Olloclip camera lens for iPhone that includes a macro.  Today you can see the difference between what I was able to capture this week vs. last week with the same Allium bloom.
I love it.

You can check out some macros of daffodils I posted yesterday as well.

MACRO MONDAY - allium

I wish I had a slow motion camera set up to track this bloom opening over time. Today is the first I have seen any hint of purple on the Allium; it is fascinating to see how they develop.

I am going to buy an external camera lens for my iPhone because these macros are not quite the quality I want.  Stay tuned next week!

MACRO MONDAY - crocus

At the cottage this weekend I stumbled on small crocus in the back garden bed by the bunk house that I had completely forgotten I had planted in the fall.
So this little cutie was a welcome surprise.

MACRO MONDAY - Solomon's Seal

Solomon's Seal is not only attractive for its discreet white bells, the foliage is also very attractive.
Do you agree?

MACRO MONDAY - moss part 2

I absolutely love old moss covered stumps and transplanted many from the forest onto my property this fall.

MACRO MONDAY - mulch

Sure it is just mulch, but there is a pleasing, haphazard symmetry in it.

MACRO MONDAY - uprooted tree

Have you ever wondered what tree roots look like under the ground?
Thought "What exactly is holding that thing in place?"
Now you know.

I took these canoeing in Northwestern Ontario in 1994.  Slightly out of focus but fascinating.

MACRO MONDAY - between a rock and a hard place

Such hope, a tree deciding to grow in this tiny crevice.
Will it prevail, grow large and healthy roots and eventually split open its host?

Boulder or a stone?
Without context one can only guess the tree's chances...

HOT & CHILLI

Okay, so these are not from my own garden, but I love this shot of dried chilies I took once while in Mexico.

MACRO MONDAY - coneflower & bee

The camera on my Windows Phone is really great, but one place it could be better is macro work.
I am going to be getting an iPhone 5 so let's hope I can get an app that will help with the macro, or maybe even another lens...

We will see.

These shots were taken in July before we left Toronto.

They are just so ever out-of-focus.

But the bee does not mind.  Much like the honey badger.

MACRO MONDAY - birch

I recently digitized some slides I had taken in the 90s.  Even back then I was clearly into nature.

I just love this shot of a birch tree.

I played with the colour and exposure, which do you prefer the original or this one that has a little more yellow tone to it?

DAYLILIES 2011

I am so busy with the move to Winnipeg and searching for work that I can only squeeze in a little time for an update, so I am going to share a couple of photos of daylilies that I took last year to reassure you that I am still alive and kicking.

Funny, it almost feels like cheating, but who am I kidding? There are no rules about this, so enjoy!

If I recall this one might be called Strawberry Candy.
