MOVING DAY

Today was moving day.
About two thirds of the plants I had stored in my parent's garden over the winter came home with me tonight. I focussed just on plants for the south lasagna garden, where all of the oranges, reds and yellows will go.

I always place all of the plants first to give myself a chance to change my mind after I see them all out together. The big change I did at this phase was to move the Honeyberry bushes into the centre because I did not realize how much a 125 cm spread really was until I got out the tape measure - I don't want them hanging into the driveway.

Finally all ready to go, for today at least.
Believe it or not I managed, with the help of my nephew, to get them all planted and watered before dark.
Watch for a map in the coming week before I forget where everything has gone!

  1. I do the same thing when laying out a new bed. I don't map the bed though I really should. Something always dies, and it's just more work than I want to do. Kudos on the beautiful lasagna bed, I've made new beds with that method too, it works great!

    1. Alison, it will be interesting to see how long I can keep my own map current. Hopefully the blog will be my impetus.

  2. You got a lot planted in a short time. It's always satisfying afterwards, when everything is tucked in. I make lots of little maps as I plant, transplant things, and bury bulbs in the fall, and then keep them all in a binder, interspersed with lists. Then every so often I consolidate all of the little maps onto a large one. At least you figured out the honeyberry placement before it got run over by a car, or you had to dig it up. Everything always looks so small in the pots, that it is so tempting to plant them too close.

    1. I do no think they are too close, but of course I have yet to add the seeds or some of the plants I have started indoors or the gifts from friends at work I am expecting when they get digging in their yards this weekend. Hard to imaging with so much room that I would run out...

  3. We are excited to see them growing. For gardeners even just new green growths are wonderful enough, flowers are just the bonuses! Happy gardening.

    1. True that...the green is all I need to 'see' everything in bloom in my mind.

  4. Looks like an excitingly large new garden bed. I know you'll be watching eagerly for new growth as the plants settle in.
